Welcome to the art reference site for the project "Gladiator:
In the Name of Entertainment" by Ghost Games.
These pages represent the conceptual design for the gladiator
costumes and weapons based on historical research and the game plan provided.
The purpose of this project was to set up a basic structure for
a design reference site and to illustrate on a preliminary level, the
kind of research model used for "Star Trek: the Next Generation Birth
of the Federation" without actually reconstructing the reference
material used for that particular game. Any "Star Trek" licensed
product requires a deeper level of research and design accuracy because,
as a highly visible license, its' design elements are not necessarily
open to interpretation, and its' large fan base is very aware of production
design details and history.
In the pre-production phase of "Birth of the Federation"
information was gathered into a small library of books, video tapes, slides
and sketches organized into notebooks.
As ST:TNG-BotF was in the last phases of beta, the art department
at Hasbro Interactive Alameda was ready to implement an intra net reference
system consisting of "websites" for each game in production,
therefore making resources and information more accessible to team members
as well as contractors and new hires coming on board in the middle of
a project.
Hasbro Interactive closed down most of its' studios before implementation.
Having no paid personnel, "Gladiator: In the Name
of Entertainment" did not move past pre-production and some of the
links are unfinished; however, the site functions as the framework for
organizing and presenting art data... a living design document.
Browse and enjoy!
